Advantages of Fiberglass Rope Heaters

rope heater element

“Rope” heating elements are ideal for counter-top appliances such as coffee brewers, slow cookers, buffet warmers and many industrial and commercial applications where long life, low-cost flexible heating is required.

Flexible fiberglass heating elements (often referred to as “Rope” heaters because of their flexibility and appearance) are fabricated by helically wrapping resistance wire around a core material. This cordage can then be covered with one or multiple walls of braided fiberglass yarn as the insulation. We currently produce rope heaters with resistance values from 0.05 Ohm/Ft up to 11,000 Ohm/Ft. Multiple alloys, gauges and stranding combinations are available. All fiberglass rope heaters are built per UL-499 standard (Electric Heating Appliances) and are recognized per UL file# E218455. Different thicknesses of the insulating sleeving are available to meet different dielectric standards or size constraints if required.

Moisture Resistant Flexible Heating Elements

Heater length, watt density, insulation color, termination and voltage requirements can be controlled to meet your requirements.

If you require moisture resistance in low wattage flexible heaters, JenTer PVC, acrylic or silicone insulated heaters can provide the solutions. The core of these heaters resembles our high-temperature elements, but PVC, acrylic or silicone insulation offers both moisture and heat resistance. The temperature rating of the moisture resistant heaters is much lower than the fiberglass counterpart.

FAQs

WHAT IS A FIBERGLASS ROPE HEATER?

A fiberglass rope heater is a highly flexible, low-cost, and very practical heating element option. They are made using a highly flexible fiberglass core that is wrapped with resistance wire. The entire rope is then covered in a layer of a specialized fiberglass yarn. While used on their own, they can also be laminated in foil for a sturdy built that holds the fiberglass rope heating element in a specific pattern.

WHAT IS THE TEMPERATURE RANGE OF A FIBERGLASS ROPE HEATER?

The temperature range of our fiberglass rope heating elements is up to 932°F. They can be used in temperatures as low as -112°F. While typically built for low-moisture applications, we also offer moisture resistant options.

WHERE ARE FIBERGLASS ROPE HEATERS USED?

There are countless uses for fiberglass rope heaters for industrial, commercial, and highly specialized applications. These heaters can be found in use in telecommunication systems, pet heaters and beds, cooking appliances, freeze prevention systems, fire safety equipment, battery warmers, pipe heat wraps, and food processing. These heaters are frequently used in heated furniture and car seats.

WHAT ARE THE STANDARD SIZES OF FIBERGLASS ROPE HEATERS?

At JenTer, we provide customized solutions for our customers. Our fiberglass rope heaters are built at thicknesses of 0.026 inches to 0.219 inches. The length can range from two inches to over one hundred feet.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE FOR A FIBERGLASS ROPE HEATER TO HEAT UP?

All of the fiberglass rope heating elements we manufacturer are built to meet our customers’ specifications. Regardless of the specific build of the heater, fiberglass rope provides almost instantaneous heat, with the ability to quickly heat up and maintain a high temperature or to operate at a lower level for a more of a warming effect.
